The ruins of Changnyeongsa Temple in Yeongwol, Gangwon-do Province, is where the sculptures of arhats believed to be 500 years old were discovered in 2001. In Buddhism, an arhat, or
nahan in Korean, is someone who has attained enlightenment and can enter nirvana. The National Museum of Korea collaborated with contemporary artist Kim Seung-young in designing and building the space in Seoul for this exhibition, which will display 90 of the 300 sculptures discovered.
