March is when the yellow blossoms of sansuyu (cornelian cherry flowers) along the foot of Jirisan Mountain signal the arrival of spring. Now in its 26th year, the Gurye Sansuyu Festival, a major spring event in Gurye-gun County, Jeollanam-do Province, is held in the nation's largest sansuyu cluster. Running from March 15-23 under the theme "Eternally Unchanging Love," this year's edition features programs including a sansuyu fruit peeling contest, walk on a sansuyu path, children's archery and traditional games from around the world.
