The annual Tongyeong Hansan Battle Festival marks Admiral Yi Sun-sin's victory in the Great Battle of Hansan in 1592. Marking its 64th edition this year, the event from Aug. 8-14 will be held throughout Tongyeong, Gyeongsangnam-do Province, including Hansan Battle Square. Kicking things off will be the traditional ritual goyuje at Chungnyeolsa Shrine, followed by a reenactment of the procession for Admiral Yi's title Samdo Sugun Tongjesa, or Naval Commander of the Three Provinces: Chungcheong-do, Jeolla-do and Gyeongsang-do and a concert. On the night of Aug. 9, the Tonight Tongyeong Fireworks Show will stimulate a festive atmosphere.
