With March comes the arrival of spring in Korea, and at this time the sansuyu trees (Japanese dogwood or Cornus fruit trees) start to bloom in Gurye. Visitors arriving in Sangwi village (the center of the Gurye Sansuyu festival) will be greeted by a riot of yellow blossoms that spread on to the surrounding foot slopes of Mt Jirisan. It is a truly spectacular sight.

Sansuyu flowers are made into tea, alcohol, and food, all of which visitors can sample at the festival. There are also a wide variety of performances and other entertainment events, including fireworks displays.
