Hyoseok Culture Festival
Yi Hyo-seok is a modern Korean writer who wrote When Buckwheat Flowers Bloom, one of the most beloved short stories in Korea. The story expounds upon the connection between human life and the beauty of nature with the dazzling natural environment of Bongpyeong, Pyeongchang (Gangwon-do) as its backdrop. Bongpyeong is Yi's hometown and appears frequently in his novels. The festival is held annually in Bongpyeong to commemorate Yi Hyo-seok and the classic story When Buckwheat Flowers Bloom.

Festival events and programs include: literary programs (Poem Exhibition and Literature Night), the Hyo-seok Essay Contest, walking along the Buckwheat Flower Field Pathway (the setting of the short story), nature experience programs (such as Coloring Your Fingernails with Balsam), cooking traditional buckwheat food, etc.

Points of interests include the Traditional Flea Market, Costume Parade, Food Theme Park, Dorikkae Madang, Achievements of Gasan (Yi’s pen name), the birthplace of Yi Hyo-seok, the Yi Hyo-seok Memorial Hall.
