The Pre-Festival serves as a mini-version/preview of the CIOFF World Folkloriada to be held in Anseong next year (2012). The CIOFF World Folkloriada is an international folklore festival held every 4 years that showcases representative Intangible Cultural Heritages from member countries of the CIOFF (International Council of Organizations of Folklore Festivals and Folk Arts).
At the Pre-Festival, visitors can look forward to parades, hands-on activities, exhibitions, educational classes, and an array of performances by local folklore masters and international folklore teams.
Exhibitions include displays of traditional clothes, musical instruments, foods, and folk crafts from around the world. Hand-on experience programs include folk games, folk crafts, experiencing Anseong in the 70s and 80s, Korean folk dance classes, songs, Namsadang School, Taepyeongmu and Hyangdangmu classes, a photo competition, and more. There will also be a wishing wall full of hopeful messages for the coming CIOFF World Folkloriada in 2012. Countries scheduled to participated in the Pre-Festival are Uzbekistan, Slovakia, Japan, the Philippines, Malaysia, India, and Uzbekistan.
