Jindo County sees a miracle in the sea every April. The sea divides itself, offering a 2.8-kilometer-long seaway. This phenomenon takes place when the water level is lowered due to the ebb and flow of the tide. It is mysterious to see the appearance of the 40-meter seaway. A total of one million Korean and foreign tourists visit this place to observe the magical hour-long show. In response to visitors’ enthusiasm, Jindo County presents regional folk arts during the festival. Some performances include nationally designated intangible cultural properties such as Ganggangsullae (Circle Dance) and drum play.
Jindo’s mysterious seaway was known to the world in 1975 by Ambassador Pierre Randi of France when he visited Jindo and wrote about it for a French paper.
