Yangpyeong Bonfire Festival 2013

Yangpyeong Bonfire Festival 2013 is to be held in Yangpyeong County on February 24. This traditional festival has been around for three decades, gathering people to wish for a great harvest, the prosperity of the nation, and the peace of the town, as well as pray for their own wishes. They set fire to a pile of wood over ten meters high on the 15th day of the New Year according to the lunar calendar, in hopes of warding off bad spirits. The festival offers many events including traditional folk games and activities such as yutnori, jegichagi, kite making, and tteok making, traditional music, and setting fire to a pile of wood as part of the full-moon tradition of the lunar year.
