Hansan Daecheop Festival, a re-enactment of a heroic sea battle will be conducted between August 14 and 18 in the waters off Tongyeong, Gyeongsangnam-do (South Gyeongsang Province). In the Hansan Daecheop (Great Battle of Hansan) in 1592, Korean naval ships led by Admiral Yi Sun-sin destroyed an invading Japanese armada.
Over 100 ships including three turtle-shaped ships and 50 fishing boats will take part in the re-enactment, which will be the highlight of the commemorative Hansan Daecheop Festival. There will also be various stage performances including a musical about Admiral Yi Sun-sin, a fusion traditional Korean music performance, and performers who are registered as intangible cultural assets.
