Each year in early May, the idyllic southern Jeollanam-do town of Boseong, where 91 percent of Korean green tea is grown and processed, celebrates its spring harvest with the Boseong Green Tea Festival.
At the festival, visitors can learn how to pick tea leaves, pour and prepare delicious pots of green tea, mold traditional tea cups, and host tea ceremonies in the vast green of the tea fields. There will be samples of fresh green tea and tea leaf-based foods, too, all made with green tea leaves, like rice cakes, chocolate and ice cream.
Other events such as the tea exhibition, a souvenir store, and even a "tea beauty salon" will take place during the festival.
Finally, tea experts from Korea, China and Japan will gather at the festival to compare and contrast differences between various types of green tea and related tea traditions in the three neighboring countries.
