Happy Seollal, Korean New Year 2020
Many Asian countries celebrate the Lunar New Year, not only China, especially Korea. Korea has various traditions and customs of Lunar New Year. Therefore, the Korean Cultural Center in Thailand held an event ‘Happy Seollal, Korean New Year 2020’ to celebrate for Seollal (Korean Lunar New Year) together. This event provided a great opportunity to enjoy Lunar New Year’s day.
Program
- Traditional Cultural Activities : Sebae (Korean Bowing), Tteok-me (Rice cake mallet) Demonstration, Millstone Grinding
- Traditional Plays : Jegichagi, Tuho, Paengichigi, Hoop rolling, Korean traditional see-saw
- Tasting Food Festival : Tteokguk (Rice cake soup) and Bindaetteok (Mung bean pancake)
The event started with Sebae activity to show how Koreans bowing to pay respect to the elders on Korean Lunar New Year’s day, followed by various Korean traditional activities, such as Korean food, plays, and traditional dress (Hanbok). This event opened for everyone without entrance fee.
