Events at KCCs abroad

The Korean Cultural Center in Turkey held an online seminar titled  'Korean Wave: How did Korean dramas become so popular? Online Seminar' in 2021.3.19 (Friday) (15:00 local time) based on the growing interest in Korean dramas by local Korean Wave fans.

At the seminar, which was held through Zoom with the invitation of Hacettepe University Professor Mutlu Binark (author of Cultural Diplomacy and Korean Wave), information on such topics as, Korean wave and K-Drama's status, public policy, the relationship between channels and production companies, the role of the Korea Creative Content Agency, and the development of online platforms: drama genre diversification, COVID-19 era and "digital renaissance," K-drama fans' emotional attachment, Korean Wave 3.0 and K-drama's future was provided along with a Q&A session, and it was a useful time for local Korean Wave fans who were interested in Korean dramas.

Park Kee-Houng, director of the Korean Cultural Center in Turkey, said, "It is none other than Korean dramas that played a decisive role in the beginning and growth of the Korean Wave in Turkey. Korean dramas, which were broadcast on the Turkish state-run television (TRT Turkish Radio and Television Corporation) in 2005 focusing on early historical dramas such as Emperor of the Sea, Jewel in the Palace, Princess Hours, Jumong, Lee San Wind of the Palace, and Sangdo Merchants of Joseon, have been diversified in terms of genre and material as they have been expanded to private broadcasting. In Turkey, Korean wave, which began with Korean dramas, then spread to K-pop, Korean movies, Korean food, and K-beauty, leading to Korean language learning and expanding the Korean Wave fandom."

Korean Wave fans, who participated in online seminar through Zoom, showed constant enthusiasm during Q&A sessions, and showed positive responses to the cultural center's active events, which provided Korean Wave content following various cultural events amid the difficult time due to the prolonged COVID-19.
