Exhibit explanation
‘How to Create a Landscape’
'Landscape' is one of the most frequently covered subjects in art discussions. Like the cultural differences between East and West, the artists' views on the 'landscape' of the two are also very different.
Western landscape painting generally focuses on visual observation and analysis, while Eastern landscape painting does not only focus on visuals but is more concerned with thoughts and experiences experienced in the landscape.
Landscape from the point of view of art is more than just an expression through representation, it is also a picture of an individual's experience and at the same time is the result of aesthetic and philosophical reflection of a period. We do live by sharing the same landscape, but each of us remembers and perpetuates it in a different way and form, and from a different point of view. For example, we remember a landscape from everyday life around us, natural scenery we see, to unexpected situations such as the pandemic that we are currently facing.
The exhibition 'How to Create a Landscape' which presents collections from the National Museum of Contemporary Art Bank and the Government Art Bank was opened with the aim of communicating with visitors through various landscapes that are expressed according to the artist's memory as expressed through their techniques, materials and colors. alone,
1. Landscape interpretation
An ordinary-looking landscape combines with the artist's expression and imagination to create a unique work. Like the works of artists Yoo Geun-Taek, Yoo Seung-Ho, and Kang Woon and others. They use creative materials and their own expression techniques so that visitors can appreciate the work while also comparing the unique painting styles of each artist.
2. Perspective and color
Artists are able to recreate an ordinary-looking landscape into a new interpretation through a mix of intense colors. They with their sharp visual sensibility are able to express landscapes with unique colors. Like artists Seo Yong-Seon, Gong Seong-Hoon, Kim Byeong-Jong for example. They are able to make visitors look back at landscapes that were previously considered normal and just passed by.
3. Material transformation
Artists are now not only painting landscapes on a flat surface, but they also use other media such as videos or objects that are not related to art so that the landscape looks new and unique. In the works of artists Hwang In-Ki, Hwang Seon-Tae, Lee Myeong-Ho and others, visitors can see landscape paintings in various forms by highlighting the uniqueness of the media they use.
