Events at KCCs abroad

Korean Cultural Center in Turkey held an individual exhibition of Yang Tae-mo's "LIGHT" jointly with AB Gallery on the 4th floor of the cultural center from August 18 to August 31. Turkey is having a difficult year due to forest fires and floods in addition to the coronavirus, so the exhibition was created to give encouragement and comfort to the Turkish people.

Artist Yang Tae-mo, who attended the opening ceremony of the exhibition, introduced his work wearing hanbok made of Hansan mosi and an indigo blue scarf. He emphasized that the clothes were handmade by his mother, and were worn to convey the warmth of mother's touch and the beauty of hanbok to Turkey.

Artist Yang Tae-mo explained the work of trapping stones on paintings that are made with blue and white porcelain and barracks that contain Korean beauty, and guided the viewers to a mysterious world of beauty where roughness and delicacy coexist. He also said, “Let the bright energy of light illuminate the anxieties, worries, and difficulties in our hearts, so let’s live with bright energy like light even in tough situations.”

Artist Yang Tae-mo is an assistant professor at Dankook University College of Arts. Since 1990, he has held more than 30 individual exhibitions, and has been actively engaged in works such as directors of the Korean Art Association, a judge at the Korean Art Exhibition, and invited artists. In 2019, he received the 'Artist Award' on the Korea Artists Day, and his works have been held at Saravia Gallery in France, Eurasia Gallery in Germany, Arario Gallery, and Hwarang KAIST Research Institute.

Director Park Kee-Houng said, “Through this exhibition of artist Tae-mo Yang, we expect to see the beauty of Korean contemporary art together with the Turkish people and enhance our understanding of the art of both countries. We will further expand our exchanges.”
