Events at KCCs abroad

The Taekwondo K-Pop Battle, a competition organized by the Korean Cultural Center, invites students of Taekwondo to combine original martial arts movements with exciting Korean pop music, creating a new and innovative form of performance art. The winning team will become the official 2012 Taekwondo demo team for the Korean Cultural Center and will perform at a variety of events throughout the year. Prizes: First Prize: $700 + status as the official 2012 demo team of the Korean Cultural Center
Second Prize: $500
Third Prize: $300

Contest Rules and Restrictions:

- The contest is open to anyone studying Taekwondo
- Teams can have a single member or up to 12 members
- Performances must be 4 - 7 minutes in length
- Attire: Taekwondo uniform trousers and belt must be worn
- Face paint and props are allowed
- One team is allowed per Taekwondo studio/school
- Teams will be given a score by a panel of judges; audience feedback will also be taken into consideration when determining winners
- Routines must be set to Korean pop songs released within the last 10 years
- Teams may edit and mix more than one song for the performance, but edited and re-arranged music must be made up of at least 85% Korean Pop songs from the past 10 years

How to Participate

1. Each group that wishes to compete must fill out an application form (available at www.koreaembassyusa.org) and email it to khs@koreaembassy.org no later than April 30, 2012

2. In addition to the application form, each group must create a 30 second video preview of their performance routine (the video does not need to show a final version of the entire routine, only a part or highlights), upload it online, and post a link to the video on the Korean Cultural Center’s Facebook page wall at www.facebook.com/KoreaCultureDC

3. Applications will be reviewed by Korean Cultural Center staff and groups will be notified of whether they will be invited to perform their routine during the final contest event on May 5.
