Events at KCCs abroad

The Korean Cultural Center in Turkey held an exhibition of Korean-Turkish proverbs in collaboration with TOBB University in Turkey from September 3rd to September 15th at the exhibition hall on the 4th floor of the Cultural Center and from September 24th to October 3rd at the Armada shopping mall in Ankara.


In this exhibition, students from the calligraphy class at the Korean Cultural Center in Turkey and students from the visual design department of TOBB University designed and made works of proverbs and idioms that are similar in both languages using calligraphy and typography. Korea and Turkey are one of the countries where there have been many cultural exchanges since the ancient Goguryeo period and the Korean War. Therefore, there are many similarities in both languages including idioms and proverbs.


At the opening ceremony, Professor Inci Karabacak, dean of the Department of Visual Design at TOBB University, “I am very grateful for the opportunity to spread the evidence of cultural exchange between Korea and Turkey through calligraphy and typography.” "I am grateful to the Korean Cultural Center for giving students a chance to gain new experiences by creating works of proverbs with calligraphy and typography," she said.”


Director Park Kee-Houng said, "We expect that this exhibition of calligraphy and typography will enhance the understanding of Korean calligraphy and the art of both countries" adding, "We will further expand exchanges by holding joint exhibitions with students in calligraphy courses at the Cultural Center and other Turkish artists."
