Hanji workshop and production demonstration

"CartaCoreana"


The master craftsman shows the production of Hanji to the students of the Academy of Fine Arts



On Monday 13 December at 10 am, a workshop on traditional Korean "Hanji" paper was organized at the Academy of Fine Arts in Rome, including a demonstration of Hanji production conducted by Master Craftsman Jang who came specially from Korea.

The workshop and demonstration took place precisely at the Academy of Fine Arts in Rome, specifically in the Paper Laboratory, which was attended and attended by 40 students of the Academy.

It was a reserved event for the first year students of Professor Ajossa in charge of the Academy's Charter Laboratory who have recently begun to learn how to make Hanji. For the occasion, in addition to the students, the artists of the exhibition "CartaCoreana" that is taking place at the Bilotti Museum, students of the specialist and of the doctorate as well as other teachers and assistants of the Academy took part in the workshop.

Silvia, one of the students who participated in the workshop, said "I was able to learn other techniques different from those taught by the Italian teachers and it was therefore an opportunity to further enrich myself and it was also a great honor to be able to learn directly from a Korean Master Craftsman".

Instead, on Tuesday and Wednesday 14 and 15 December at the Korean Cultural Center a workshop was conducted for the production of small objects such as lanterns and brooches made with Hanji, as well as having had the opportunity to produce a sheet of Hanji in the shape of a butterfly.

The workshop was held in the Central Hall of the KCC's Exhibition Hall which was attended by a total of 60 people by appointment, divided into 6 groups.

Master Craftsman Jang and Hanji Kim artist supported by the Hanji Development Institute conducted the workshop giving the opportunity to local visitors to learn more about the traditional Korean Hanji karat and try the manufacturing art obtained through Hanji.

Uliana, who participated in the workshop, said "at the workshop we produced things that in Italy we would never have imagined to do with paper" while Floriana, another participant, said "The peculiar characteristics of Hanji when combined with light creates a wonderful atmosphere, one of a kind that no other material can give ".
