The Consulate General co-hosted a virtual meeting with the New York City government on February 22. The attending City leadership included Commissioner Edward Mermelstein of the Mayor’s Office for International Affairs, Commissioner Fred Kreizman of the Mayor’s Community Affairs Unit, Chair and Commissioner of the NYC Commission on Human Rights Annabel Palma, and Commissioner Kevin Kim of the NYC Department of Small Business Services. Following the opening remarks by Consul General Byung Hwa Chung, community leaders voiced their concerns to the city leaders, including the recent surge of violence against Asian Americans.
The Korean community was represented by President Charles Yoon of the Korean American Association of Greater New York, Mr. Yoon Young Park, former President of Korean American Community Council, and Ms. Megan Rha, an attorney and community activist.
