Korean Cultural Centre India to start Taekwondo classes in 31 Indian schools
Korean Cultural Centre India has announced that they will be conducting offline Taekwondo classes for 3,331 students from a total of 31 schools starting from 1st April 2022. These will be the first Taekwondo classes to be conducted in the Indian schools with the support of the Ministry of Culture, Sports, and Tourism, the government of the Republic of Korea(South Korea). Korean Culture Centre India has signed MOU with 31 school principals and will be sending 19 Taekwondo instructors who are the members of Korean Cultural Centre India Taekwondo Demonstration Team.
Taekwondo is a traditional Korean martial art with the history of almost 2,000 years and is currently being practiced in 211 countries around the world. It was adopted as an official Olympic sport in 2000. India also won a total of 26 medals at 2019 South Asian Games, including nine gold medals.
Especially, one of the dispatched Taekwondo instructors, Mr. Gaurav Singh the gold medalists at the 2019 South Asian Games, is gaining significant amount of popularity among schools and students. Mr. Gaurav Singh said, "I'm very happy to have the opportunity to teach Taekwondo that I learned at Korean Cultural Centre India to the Indian students. Taekwondo helps the learners in providing a balanced physical development by using all parts of the body, and not only improves the basic physical strength but also has a positive effect on personality development by teaching formality and manners through the classes."
The Director of Korean Cultural Centre India, Mr. Hwang Il-yong, said, “I sincerely thank the principals of the 31 Indian schools for allowing to conduct Taekwondo classes for students who returned to school after a lengthy two-year period. I believe that the Taekwondo class can provide the balanced mind and body training, at the same time, learning about Korea and Korean culture more deeply.”
