Hyo-young KIM

As Korea's leading Saenghwang performer, Hyo-young drew the public's attention back to the mysterious traditional instrument by restoring its glory in old pieces as well as creating new ones.

Hyo-young KIM is highly regarded as an outstanding performer and a composer who continues to create Saenghwang music and as a musician who pursues new forms of music beyond traditional framework with bold attempts of mixing instruments and genres. She received the 'Young Women Culture Artist Award' hosted by the Seoul Newspaper in 2013 and the 'Grand Prize' in the Wind Instrumental Division of the KBS Traditional Music Awards in 2015. In 2014, she was selected for the 'Cité Internationale des Arts Residency' in France and started her European musical career. She was invited for two years in a row to the opening ceremony for the 'Korean Music Festival' in Frankfurt, Germany, in 2016 and 2017. Also, the recital 'Dream Beyond Life' in May 2017, a reinterpretation of Yoon Yi-Sang's work, was invited to the re-opening ceremony of the Yoon Yi-Sang Memorial Hall in November 2017. Her albums include Kim Hyo-young's Saenghwang album <Reincarnation> (2009, Pony Canyon Korea), <Hyang-ga> (2011, Sony Music Korea), the Third Reincarnation <Stream> (2021, Sound Republica), and the single <When the Wind Blows> (2021, Sound Republica).
