Special exhibition in Venice for the Gwangju Movement for Democracy on May 18th

In her greeting, the Director wished that visitors to the exhibition through the works on display could feel the passion of the citizens of Gwangju for democracy and freedom and that the exhibition could be the same opportunity to further deepen the cultural exchange between Korea and the Italy. Furthermore, during his greeting he wanted to present and bring the best wishes for the projects in collaboration between the KOCIS, the Korean Cultural Institute and the Gwangju Biennial Foundation, that is the online meeting with the author of "Human Acts" Han Kang which took place on March 31st and the program for museum docent which will open in the period from June to July.





President Park of the Gwangju Biennale also said during the inauguration that this exhibition organized for the first time in 2020 for the 40th anniversary of the May 18 Movement of Gwangju could be the place of dissemination of the heritage that brings precisely the history of Korean Democracy and he thanked the Korean Cultural Center for collaboration.





At the inauguration there were not only exponents of local art, but also students and professors of the Faculty of Korean Studies of the Ca 'Foscari University, with whom the staff of the Institute took the opportunity to stimulate the students to participate in the program for museum docent to be held in June.





The Director also had the opportunity to speak with the staff of the Gwangju Biennale who emphasized the importance of this exhibition especially in this historical moment in which there is an even greater interest in the freedom of human rights in the light of the ongoing conflict. protracted in Ukraine.
