The 2nd Korean Ambassador’s Cup Turkish National Student Baduk Tournament Completed
The Embassy of the Republic of Korea in Turkey held the “2nd National Student Baduk Tournament”, the first national Baduk tournament in Turkey in 2022 at the Korean Cultural Center in Turkey at 2 pm on May 22.
This competition was held twice following the “1st National Student Baduk Tournament” last year, and the preliminary round was held on May 15th using the online KGS Baduk program taking advantage of the characteristics of the Baduk event. In the preliminary round, more than 80 students from various cities such as Istanbul, Izmir, and Hatay, including Ankara, the capital of Turkey, participated, and among them, 8 top elementary school students and 9 middle school students participated in the final competition on May 22nd.
In addition, the opening ceremony of the tournament started with the opening remarks of the president of Korean Cultural Center in Turkey Kee-Houng Park, and introduced Korean culture through a celebratory performance by the Turkish K-Pop Cover Dance Team and the Cultural Center Samulnori Team.
In this competition, Alper Sulak won the primary division and Mehmet Ali Goktas won the middle school division.
The rank holders are given medals, championship cups, Baduk board sets, and Baduk lessons. Participants in the finals will receive commemorative t-shirts, cups, and Baduk books as gifts to help students who are the future of Turkish Baduk.
Ambassador Lee Won-ik said, “This 2nd National Student Baduk Tournament will serve as an opportunity to introduce Korea, a powerful Baduk country,” and “I hope that Turkey will become a European Baduk power through these participants.”
