The Memoirs of Lady Hyegyeong
June 2, 2022 / 20:00 / Korean Cultural Center / Free (Reservation Required)
*This event will be held in French.
Between 1795 and 1806 an indignant old lady would write three lengthy memoirs to defend her vision of the most incredible history of Joseon: her spouse, young Crown Prince of 25 years, was sentenced by his father, King Yeongjo, to die by suffocation in a rice chest!
Yumi HAN and Hervé PÉJAUDIER, who have translated and annotated this work (first translation in French) will use many illustrations to define this lady. Isabelle GENLIS, comedienne and storyteller, will read alternating broad extracts from this text, reviving the words of Lady Hyegyeong, allowing us to discover the literary and emotional power of her extraordinary life.
Finally, 4 talented traditional Korean music students from the Korea National University of Arts Seoul (KNUA) accompany the comedian’s voice, interpreting partitions of Jeong-Ak, the only form of music allowed at the Court of Joseon.
*Collaboration with K-VOX Festival, KNUA, IMAGO, LTI Korea
