Yeesookyung,  Moonlight Crown_Silla Gold Crown Shadow, 2021

Presented originally at the 『DNA: Korean Art Yesterday and Today』 exhibition at the MMCA Deoksugung (July 7, 2021-October 10, 2021), Yeesookyung’s 「Moonlight Crown_Silla Gold Crown Shadow」objectifies the about 1,500-year-old gold crown of ancient 5th century Silla Dynasty.

Yeesookyung (b.1963) is a Korean contemporary artist who studied western painting and received BFA and MFA degrees from Seoul National University. Afterwards, Yee participated in Villa Arson Residency Program (Nice, France) and became involved in the residency programs at Bronx Museum and Apex Art (New York), Ssamzie Studio (Seoul) and Gyeonggi Creation Center. Through her works ranging from sculpture, installation, video, painting, and drawing to performance, Yee suggests the function of healing through tradition, modern, orientalism and art. Yee observes the broken and abandoned porcelain fractures to combine them into a transformed new piece, not in a conventional porcelain form.

This VR video was also presented at the COEX K-POP SQUARE in Seoul (2021.9.15.~12.31) and the Marriott Marquis in NY Timesquare (2021.9.27.).
