Various Korean soft power events including Temple food, Drone show, B-Boy and traditional music performance, Model Festival, Hanbok Fashion show and K-pop cover dance competition.
The Korean Cultural Center in Thailand hosts 'Korean Culture Scene', 2022 Korean Week Events, from 24th September to 15th October.
To commemorate 10th anniversary of strategic partnership between Korea and Thailand, the center prepares various Korean cultural events, including offering of Korean temple food as alms bowl meal, Drone show for Korean-Thai friendship, Korean-Thai Culture Festival <Annyeong Thailand, Sawasdee Korea>, K-webtoon exhibition, K-pop cover dance competition, Asia Model Festival, and Global Hanbok Model Contest.On 24th September, the center unveils the webtoon series titled "One Day, My Favorite K-Pop Idol Group Leader Disappeared!", based on the story of K-pop Idol star and Korean War Veterans. After then, from 29th September, many Korean cultural events will be held at Future Park Rangsit, such as K-pop Cover Dance Festival, Asia Model Festival and Global Hanbok Model Festival.
On 2nd Octoberat 16:00, the Korean-Thai Culture Festival <Annyeong Thailand, Sawasdee Korea> will be on stage for the 3rd time, since 2018. As the opening, Ms. NarilyaGulmongkolpech, Thai actress who won the 30th Suphannahong National Film Awards for Best Leading Actress from the Thai-Korean film 'The Medium (Rang Zong)' which was shown in 2021, will be on the stage as the honorary Ambassador of the festival and the model of Hanbok Fashion show. Then, the Korean Culture Association provide Hanbok to 11 Thai Korean War Veterans, and the Embassy of the Republic of Korea deliver scholarship to the Thai descendants of Korean War Veterans at this event, while Ms. Narilya also join to these ceremonies.
The various Korean-Thai performance will be followed: The College of Dramatic Arts present Thai traditional dance, and the performance of Korean-Thai idol group ‘Seven Stars’ will be followed to illustratethe soft power exchange of both countries. ‘Seven Stars’, 3 Korean members and 4 Thai members, formed on 17th September by Channel 3 and attract attention as the symbol of the Korean-Thai soft power.
On this event, B-Boy and traditional music performance also will be showed by Jeong Ga Ak Hoe (JGAH) with B-Boy team 'M.B.CREW' and 'BASEUS'. The performance in Thailand is the part of the concert tour on 6 countries, under the name 'Korea Culture Scene', led by KOCIS (Korean Culture and Information Service). JGAH is a skilled traditional Korean music performance group and performed in the stage of many countries such as England, Unite States and Hong Kong, since its foundation in 2000. The members of team 'M.B.CREW' and 'BASEUS' are talented B-boy who win various world championship, and they will show creative breaking dance using Korean Mask dance and popular scenes from the world-known series such as 'Squid Game'.
'Face of Thailand' of the 17th Asia Model Festival, will be on 30th September. It is the largest model festival as 27 countries in Asia attend, and Top 3 models will be invited to the training camp in Korea for 15 days, then challenge to 'Face of Asia', the final stage of the festival to be the top model in Asia.
The 12th Thailand K-pop Cover dance Festival is the biggest competition in the nation as more than 100 teams applied every year, and the winner goes to the stage in Korea, which is the world final round. Until now, teams from Thailand win world titles two times and runner up once in the history of the world final round, which over 3,000 teams from more than 70 countries attend.
The Grand finale of Global Hanbok Model Contest in Thailand will be held on 2nd October, through its Semi-final stage on 29th September, hosted by the Korean Culture Association. Its total prize value reaches 360,000 THB and invitation as a special guest to the Hanbok Model Contest 2023 in Korea will be given including flight ticket and accommodation.
Jeong Kwan, a Korean Buddhist nun introduced the world to Korean temple food on the popular Netflix show 'Chef's Table' will provide Korean temple food to 109 Thai monks on 3rd October Morning. The event will be held at Wat Arun, the representative temple in Thailand, as alms bowl meal (Bal-woo-gong-yang in Korean). The event is to promote healthy and eco-friendly Korean temple food, as fulfillment has graciousness for life and the cook, and contribute Buddhism culture exchange between Korea and Thailand.
On 4th October evening, the experience event of Korean temple food will be prepared in the Korean National Day event at the Royal Thai Navy Hall. 'Korean-Thai Friendship Drone Show' will be the highlight on that day, and whole Bangkok citizen can watch this show over the Chaopraya River. The show will illustrate the flags of two nations, tiger (the national animal of Korea), elephant (the national animal of Thailand) and messages with music 'Permission to Dance' of BTS as the background to promote Korean-Thai friendship.
On 6th October, ‘Chung-heung-dung-dang’, the Korean-Thai traditional music club in the Center, holds the first offline concert at the center. On this concert, the club will perform various Korean instruments including Gayaguem, Danso and Samulnori to play traditional and modern music of both countries.
Mr. Cho, Jae Il, the Director of the Korean Cultural Center in Thailand, said "Korean Culture Scene' will be the great scene that you can enjoy various Korean culture including K-pop, K-webtoon, K-beauty, Hanbok and Korean temple food. It also will be the scene of soft power exchange to the both countries, by Thai traditional performance and Korean-Thai idol project."
