Picnic with Hangul: 1st Hangul Festival
The Korean Cultural Center in Brussel organized its first Hangul Festival 'Picnic with Hangul' from September 22 to 24, 2022 in honor of Hangul Day on which the publishing of “Hunminjeongeum” by King Sejon the Great is celebrated.
During three days of the festival, the visitors could experience the beauty and inventiveness of Hangul and take part in a variety of activities such as conferences, workshops, performances and a movie screening.
There was a workshop in which the participants could use Hangul to create a new piece of art on beautiful traditional Korean paper. Another one that introduced the characteristics and inventiveness of Hangul and a Hangul Lyric Writing class that provided a great opportunity for K-pop fans to start writing songs for their favourite K-pop group!
The media and contemporary dance performance called 'Triptych [A]' in which a projection of Hangul calligraphy on a screen and the body movements of the dancer Jae Duk Kim expressed in a new and inventive way the relationship of movement between calligraphy and choreography.
As the perfect closing event, there was a film screening of the movie 'Mal-Mo-E: The Secret Mission' that describes the love for and passion of Kim Pan-Soo for the Korean language by joining forces with a representative of the Korean Language Society to publish a dictionary of the Korean language.
