KOCIS(Korean Culture and Information Service) and the Korean Cultural Center in Hong Kong organize an exhibition about K-pop, Korean popular music. K-POP commonly refers to the form of Korean popular music often associated with Korean pop music idols. Characterized by its catchy melodies and colorful performances, K-POP has ceaselessly evolved in line with global trends. K-POP cannot be simply defined by its style, but indeed extends well beyond Korean “idol music” or any other specific genre. A proper understanding of K-POP also requires consideration of industrial and social factors because K-POP is a music form that represents the cultural evolution of Korean modern society, as well as a product of social interaction and the cultural industry. This exhibition shows the history of K-pop starting from the 1950s and how it is the product of a fruitful encounter between Western music and Korean emotions.
Today, K-POP is changing into a new wave of culture where people all over the world enjoy and communicate together by collaborating with artists from around the world and meeting various cultures. Everyone is welcomed to join this exhibition to enjoy K-pop to the fullest through various dynamic media installations such as videos, media mapping and immersive media.
