Events at KCCs abroad

Korean Cultural Center in Thailand held ‘Korean New Year’ in January 24th to celebrate Seollal, which is the most celebrated traditional holiday in Korea.


Around 1,000 Koreans and Thai attend this event, including H.E. Mr. Moon Seoung-hyun, Ambassador of the Republic of Korea to Thailand, heads of the Korean organizations in Thailand, Thai Korean war veterans, and students studying Korean language.


A lot of Thai students from four universities and nine high schools attend the event, including Chulalongkorn University, Thammasat University, Srinakharinwirot University, UTCC, Wattana Wittayalai Academy, and Rittiyawannalai School.

Korean and Thai students bow to adults, which is called 'Sebae'. It's to wish them a happy new year. Then the adults reward this 'Sebae' by giving New Year's gift money along with words of blessing to their junior. In this event, gift voucher was given.


The event included traditional musical performances by Gayageum and Geomungo, traditional Hanbok clothing experiences, traditional plays such as Yut Noli, Tuho, Jegichagi, making rice-cake using a mallet called 'Tteokme', and a traditional food 'Tteokguk' experiencing.
