Events at KCCs abroad

The Korean Cultural Center Los Angeles (Director Jung Sangwon, KCCLA) and GYOPO (Christine Y. Kim, Steering Committee Member) hosted a film symposium on the Golden Age of Cinema in Postwar South Korea (1954-1972) on February 4-5, 2023. The two-day event featured several distinguished film scholars, writers and movie critics who discussed this era, including the overlooked female directors who were active during this time, and highlight the films that heavily influenced generations of Korean filmmakers in later decades.

Distinguished guest speakers included Christina Klein, Steven Chung, Kyung Hyun Kim, Irhe Sohn, author Paul Fischer, and legendary movie critic and translator Darcy Paquet. Nahmee Lee, Laura Ha Reizman, and Kathleen McHugh moderated the roundtable discussions.
