The Korean Cultural Centre Australia (KCCAU) transformed its Hanok area into a book cafe for five days, beginning March 6th and ending on the 10th as part of the 2023 Korean Literature Week (Feb. 27 - March 12), receiving a great response from the attendees and book lovers in Sydney.
In this Korean traditional Hanok-style and cozy book cafe, participants were free to roam, reading from a collection of curated Korean literature inspired by the Literature Week, while indulging in the nostalgic music of Korean dramas and more playing on the turntables. Traditional Korean snacks and drinks were also offered to savour the full Korean cultural experience.
While KCCAU received prior registration applications for the book cafe, those passing by the KCCAU's large glass doors were also lured in by their curiosity and welcomed with open arms to enjoy the serene atmosphere of the Hanok book cafe, situated in the heart of Sydney.
One attendee, Rana, said "It was a momentary escape from the hustle and bustle of my busy life, to sit and read a book, to listen to music in the serenity of a beautiful Hanok." She added, "If this cafe was to open again, I would love to come again."
Another visitor, John, mentioned "My office is nearby, so I visited the cafe during lunchtime for two days in a row, and I nearly finished My Brilliant Life, which is sad but a beautiful story. I would like to finish the rest of the book at KCCAU's library some time."
The KCCAU is to continue to offer various Korean cultural programs to provide locals with opportunities for multifaceted comprehensive cultural experiences. It will also continue to maximise its facility and space to create exciting new experiences within the comfort of familiar surroundings.
