Since 2008, ‘The Korean American Experience Workshop’ has been held 5 times a year and more than 2,000 LA police have participated. The workshop was conducted in collaboration with the Los Angeles Police Department’s West Bureau’s five divisions (Hollywood, Olympic, Pacific, West Los Angeles, Wilshire Community Police Station) and Office West Bureau’s 6 divisions.

The lectures covered a wide variety of topics, including “Understanding Korea’s Past and Present”, “Overview of Korean American History and Community,” “Post-LA Uprising Transformations,” and “Understanding Korean Society”, and treated officers to Korean food and traditional music

performances.

In addition, through this workshop, LA police officials who have been solely in charge of public security in LA County and LA City can broaden their understanding of Korean culture and immigrant society. The workshop has been evaluated to play an important role in preventing and responding to disadvantages that Koreans may receive due to cultural differences and anti-Asian racism.
