On the occasion of the 60th Anniversary of diplomatic relations between Korea and Canada in 2023, the Korean Cultural Centre Canada co-produces with Elektra in Montreal, <Wicked Ocean> by Yaloo. It is the second part of the Korean Media Art Touring Exhibition.
Since the recent pandemic, Yaloo has spent significant time in Seoul and trained in a commercial 3D animation school. This experience helped her initialize experimental Sci-Fi works such as Homo Paulinella the Lab, Pickled City, and Super Coral Anti Fragile. These projects capture a unique sense of contemporariness of East Asian metropolis, where centuries and the dramatic pulses of our planet in the Anthropocene can be accessed in a small alley.
Born in Korea and works internationally, Yaloo earned BFA and MFA in video art from the School of Art Institute of Chicago. She has been selected for fully funded international residencies such as Zer01ne and Asia Culture Center in Korea, the Fukuoka Asian Art Museum in Japan, Western Front and La Bande Video in Canada, the Headlands Art Center and Bemis Studio Art Center in the USA. She was also awarded a Lyn Blumenthal Memorial Scholarship by Video Data Bank and won a Gold Prize in visual arts from the AHL Foundation in New York. Last year, she was part of a duo show at FACT Liverpool, UK.

ELEKTRA is a leader in events dedicated to contemporary digital art in North America. Since 1999, ELEKTRA has been working to promote the international distribution of works and artists from Quebec and Canada.
ELEKTRA is an organization that disseminates works and artists who combine contemporary artistic creation and new technologies, and who are part of the current aesthetics of research and experimentation. Under this umbrella, ELEKTRA organizes a series of activities: the ELEKTRA International Digital Art Festival works since 1999 to discover audiovisual, immersive, participative and/or robotic artistic performances. Created in 2012, the International Digital Art Biennial (BIAN) is a major exhibition of works that combine new technologies with contemporary artistic creation in a new, innovative or critical way. As an extension of its first virtual exhibitions, ELEKTRA opened in 2022 the EVM - Elektra Virtual Museum - a unique and constantly reinvented 3D museum space where modeled works by local and international artists are exhibited.
ALAIN THIBAULT (Artistic Director)
Curator and artistic director in the fields of digital art, electronic music and sound art, Alain Thibault is the founder of two major events in Montreal, ELEKTRA and the International Digital Art Biennial. Also a composer of electronic music, his work has been broadcast in Quebec (Canada) and internationally.
