* About the Workshop <Calling the Name>
Everyone has a name. However, every name is defined differently depending on one's social position or situation. For example, when a child is born, the mother's name naturally becomes (baby)’s mother. Likewise, names can become forgotten or redefined, depending on different circumstances. In like manner, many will have a name they wish to call out, presumably a person that is important or dear to their lives.
This workshop will be an exercise to remember and to recognize names of loved ones, whether family or friends, or those who have been or are being victimized by the society, war, poverty, etc. It will be a time to remind ourselves of the relationships we form in our society, in our day to day lives and the names of each person that completes us as who we are.
* About the artist, LEE Yeon-sook
Lee Yeon-sook studied sculpture and fine arts at Hongik University's Department of Sculpture and Goldsmith's College, and is engaged in spatial installation and convergence art that incorporates various media. With the theme of her daily experience, place of memory, and changes in perceptions, her previous works symbolically revealed social issues by combining individual memories with specific events through discarded objects. Since then, LEE, has focused her works around the architectural space and accumulated personal narratives interconnected to a specific location, and created media contents, sculptures, space installation and performances that portray individuals’ life in societal phenomena.
