The Korean Cultural Center in Belgium (Director Kim Dongeun) held a 'Summer Night Concert' on the 9th (Wednesday) by inviting four gifted musicians, including graduates and current students of the Korea Institute for Gifted and Talented Education for the Arts ( hereafter referred to as Gifted Students).
The musicians participating in this concert are Lee Noah (12 years old), Son Jiwoo (13 years old), Lee Chanki (15 years old), Baek Seoyeon (15 years old), all young violinists between the ages of 12 and 15. They have already been recognized for their skills early on by winning awards at leading domestic competitions such as the Music Journal Competition, Donga Junior Music Competition, and Ehwa Kyunghyang Competition.
In particular, Jee-Woo Son has participated in the Ysaye Junior International Music Competition, the International Arthur Grumiaux Competition for Young Violinists, and the Leonid Kogan International Competition for Young Violinists in Belgium. By achieving excellent results in a competition held for musicians, it attracted the attention of local audiences even before the performance.
After graduating from Korea National University of Arts, cellist Moon Kwang-kyun, who participated in the special performance, graduated with the highest score in the master's course for soloist at Hochschule für Musik Karlsruhe in Germany. From October of this year he will be taking the top performer course at the Antwerp Royal Conservatory. Moon Kwang-gyun, who is currently active in Europe, cheered for his future growth by playing with his juniors.
The performers gave the audience a 60-minute stage composed of 'Izai Violin Sonata', Paganini's 'Caprice' and Chrysler's 'Recitative and Scherzo', Shostakovich's 'Sonata for Two Violins', and Mendelssohn's 'Piano Trio'. About 120 local spectators who visited the performance responded with generous applause to the performers.
Although August is the local holiday season, seats for this concert were sold out within two days of opening tickets. Yasmina (Belgium), who visited the performance, said, “I watched the performance with high expectations because it was a classic performance by Korean gifted children, but it was a fantastic performance that exceeded expectations.” ”, expressing satisfaction with the concert.
Violinist Noah Lee said, “It was a short preparation period, but I thought about how to interpret the song and create musical expressions with the teacher and other musicians. Thanks to that, I was able to perform without being nervous, and thanks to the sincere response from the audience, I was able to fall deeper into the performance.”
The Korean Cultural Center in Belgium supports the local activities of Korean classical musicians in various ways. We cooperate with the world-renowned Queen Elizabeth Competition and Music Chapelle, and support Korean musicians' concerts in Musictroa Festival and Brussels Cello Festival.
The concert was held by the Korean Cultural Center in Belgium in cooperation with Love2Arts, a local performance organization, and H.E. RYU Jeonghyun, Ambassador of the Republic of Korea to the Kingdom of Belgium and the European Union attended the concert and encouraged the musicians.
