Events at KCCs abroad

On August 12, the Korean Cultural Center Washington, D.C. (KCCDC) hosted the much-anticipated finale showcase of the 2023 K-Pop Academy DC program. This vibrant event marked the end of a three-week journey of K-pop vocal and dance training, as 50 students took to the stage to showcase their newfound talents at American University's Katzen Arts Center.

K-Pop Academy DC is an annual three-week training and cultural exploration program presented by the Korean Cultural Center Washington, D.C. (KCCDC) that allows Korean pop culture fans to experience the excitement of the Hallyu phenomenon firsthand. Participants get the chance to work with professional vocal and dance trainers from Korea to learn the moves and sounds of the global K-Pop music sensation together with fellow fans, while also experiencing the passionate work ethic, sense of community, and creative energy that drives the industry.

The showcase was packed with dance performances featuring renditions of iconic K-pop songs such as "Super Shy" and "Attention" by New Jeans, "Antifragile" by Le Sserafim, "Rover" by Kai, "Bon Bon Chocolat" by Everglow, and many more.

The showcase also spotlighted the vocal talents of the students, who performed covers of timeless hits like "Ma Boy" by Sistar, "Cupid" by FiftyFifty, "Butterfly" by BTS and the ever-popular "Gangnam Style" by PSY.

As a grand finale performance showcasing their unity and the global impact of K-pop, the students and teachers united for a group performance of BTS's chart-topping anthem "Permission to Dance."
