16th Annual "Korean Culture Day," Held in Commemoration of the 60th Anniversary of Korean Immigration to Brazil
On August 19th and 20th, the Korean Cultural Center in Brazil (Director: Kim Cheol-Hong) hosted a special performance as part of the 16th Annual "Korean Culture Day" held in the Bonghechiro region, where a significant Korean community resides, in So Paulo, the largest city in Brazil, to commemorate the 60th anniversary of Korean immigration to Brazil (organized by the Brazilian-Korean Association).
For this year's Korean Culture Day, a special performance was presented by invited Korean performance teams. The invited teams included "Dosi Band," a world music band that presents a new genre of music to the public through the fusion of traditional Korean musical instruments and band sounds; "YedamY," an organization established for the preservation and creation of Korean traditional dance; and "SIGA Company," a Korean contemporary dance performance team invited to the 2023 Dança em Trânsito Brazilian local dance festival. These teams showcased a diverse range of cultural performances, including traditional dance, fusion Korean music, and contemporary dance.
This year's Korean Culture Day attracted a total of over 80,000 visitors over the two days. In addition to the cultural performances presented by the Cultural Center, various programs were offered, including performances by local Korean communities, cultural experience programs such as trying on Hanbok (traditional Korean clothing) and traditional games, as well as food stalls, providing a wide range of entertainment and cultural experiences related to Korean culture for both local Brazilian audiences and the Korean community.
