Manila, Philippines – October 10, 2023 – The Korean Cultural Center in the Philippines (KCC) marked a memorable celebration of Hangeul Day last October 6th and 7th, 2023, fostering cultural exchange and language appreciation between the Filipino and Korean communities. The event saw the active participation of Las Piñas National High School (LPNHS) students, teachers, and KCC language students, reinforcing the significance of Hangeul in Korean culture.

On October 6th, 67 students of Grades 8 and 9 under the Special Program for Foreign Language - Korean participated in the event. It was divided into two sections - language and art classes. The language class, led by Hong Ji Eun, the language teacher, aimed to introduce students to the beauty of the Korean language. The art class, guided by artist Yoon Dong Hyun, offered students the opportunity to express their creativity through Hangeul writing and fan painting. Additionally, KCC donated Sejong Language Books to LPNHS, supporting the students' continued exploration of the Korean language.

KCC Director Kim Myeongjin, in his heartfelt welcome remarks, expressed his gratitude and enthusiasm, saying, "I am so happy to be here with you today, and I am thankful that you are learning about Hangeul and the Korean language.”

He added that the importance of studying Korean language extends beyond linguistic appreciation, as it fosters cultural understanding and promotes friendship among nations.

The celebration continued on October 7th with a gathering of KCC language students who showcased their artistic talents under the theme "Hangeul." A diverse array of artworks was created, each reflecting the students' unique interpretation in relation to the Korean alphabet. The winning team produced an exquisite piece that beautifully captured the essence of Hangeul.

Hangeul, the unique letter of Korea, holds profound cultural significance in Korea. It is not merely a writing system but a reflection of Korean identity and heritage. By celebrating Hangeul Day and encouraging Filipinos to learn the Korean language, we deepen the cultural ties between our nations. It is through such initiatives that we foster mutual understanding and friendship, building bridges that connect our two diverse cultures.

Currently, the Korean Cultural Center in the Philippines is promoting Korean language learning by supporting the Special Program for Foreign Language-Korean, program under the Department of Education in the Philippines, and through the King Sejong Institute Foundation by providing Korean language classes.
