The Korean Cultural Center in Brazil (Director: Kim Cheul-hong) has announced that they are holding an event called "Blooming" from October 21 (Saturday) to the 29th (Sunday) in celebration of the 10th anniversary of the cultural center's opening (the cultural center opened on October 23, 2013).
The event name "Blooming" represents the recent explosive popularity of Hallyu (Korean Wave) in Brazil.
※ Cultural Center Visitors: About 45,000 in 2022 → About 140,000 in 2023 (as of September)
Korean Culture Day event (Sao Paulo): About 35,000 in 2022 → About 80,000 in 2023
The event includes exhibitions, performances, workshops, and the performances will take place on Paulista Avenue (closed to traffic on Sundays) to create a festive atmosphere for all Brazilians to enjoy.
(Exhibition) Inside the cultural center, there will be a "Hanji Flower" exhibition planned to symbolize the blossoming of Korean culture in Brazil, running until January 31, 2024.
The featured artist, Im Na, is an artist based in Jeonju, and she has continued her Hanji flower craftwork activities due to the special charm she found in Hanji, which lasts for a thousand years. The exhibition will feature a spatial exhibition using Hanji flowers, Brazilian flowers made of Hanji, and introduce court paintings.
In addition, there is a Hanji promotion space created through collaboration between the cultural center and the Hanji Culture Industry Center under the Korea Crafts & Design Foundation to introduce the functional, historical value, and beauty of Hanji.
(Performance) On the 29th (Sunday), an outdoor busking performance celebrating the 10th anniversary of the cultural center's opening will take place on Paulista Avenue in front of the cultural center building from 12:00 PM to 4:00 PM.
The performance program includes the cultural center's K-pop cover dance team "KC Girls," a Taekwondo workshop by Taekwondo instructor Im Yeon-chul from the Korea Cultural Center, "MGDM" (street dance and DJing), and traditional dance and mask play performances by the performance team of the Brazilian-Korean Cultural Arts Association.
A special performance featuring traditional Korean performing arts team "In Pungryu" and B-boy team "20th Century B-Boys" that took place on the 22nd (Sunday) has been recorded and will be released as a cultural center 10th-anniversary video.
※ The street performances by the Korean-invited performance team and the cultural center project team "Gamuseong," originally scheduled for the 22nd (Sunday), were canceled due to the sudden announcement of the suspension of the "Paulista aberta" program by the Sao Paulo city government, and instead, a special performance inside the cultural center was recorded.
Kim Cheul-hong, Director of the Korean Cultural Center in Brazil, said, "I am delighted to hold the 10th-anniversary event of the cultural center this year, which is the 60th anniversary of Korean immigration in Brazil, in a situation where Hallyu is receiving much love. The seed of Korean culture came from Korea, but it was the Brazilian citizens who made it bloom. I sincerely appreciate it. However, I still think it's a newly bloomed flower. The cultural center will make efforts to create deeper and more diverse cultural exchange programs so that this flower can bloom more beautifully. Finally, I would like to share the poem 'Full Flower' by Korean poet Nataeju with the Brazilian citizens."

You have to look closely
To see its beauty
You have to look for a long time
To see its loveliness
You are also like that."
