KCC Celebrates "Seollal: Tradition, Taste, and Experience" with Cultural Partners
The Korean Cultural Center hosted a special event, "Seollal: Tradition, Taste, and Experience," on February 8th, bringing together cultural partners from the National Commission for Culture and the Arts (NCCA) and the National Museum of the Philippines (NMP) in celebration of the upcoming Korean Lunar New Year, Seollal, which falls on February 10th.
"This year’s Seollal, which falls on February 10th, is more than simply a date on the calendar; it’s an occasion to honor the family, respect, and prosperity for the years to come that define Korean values,” Pauline Joyce Pascual, writer from The Daily Tribune, who also joined in the event, wrote in her article.
The event commenced with a comprehensive lecture on Seollal by Dr. Kyung Min Bae from the University of the Philippines' Korea Research Center. Dr. Bae not only emphasized the importance of the celebration but also delved into its rich cultural and historical significance, providing attendees with a deeper understanding of the traditions associated with Seollal.
Participants from NCCA and NMP were then invited to engage in a hands-on experience by crafting bokjumeoni, the traditional money pouch believed to bring protection and good fortune. The Center also treated guests to Tteokguk, a savory rice cake soup traditionally consumed during Seollal, offering them a taste of Korean culinary delights.
As a concluding highlight of the day, attendees were treated to a captivating "Mini House Concert" in conjunction with the ongoing "Endless Landscape: Digitally Reimagined Korean Art" exhibit. The performers, hailing from the Philippine Baranggay Folk Dance Troupe, added a vibrant and cultural touch to the event, leaving a lasting impression on all in attendance.
The Korean Cultural Center extends its gratitude to its cultural partners and participants for making "Seollal: Tradition, Taste, and Experience" a resounding success, fostering cultural exchange and understanding between the Philippines and Korea.
