Last Friday, 9 February, the Korean Cultural Centre in South Africa (KCCSA) celebrated ‘Seollal,’ the Korean Lunar New Year.

The participants of the event learned rich traditions, played fun games, made delicious food, and enjoyed all the festivities, ushering in the new year once again as the following day marked the Korean Lunar New Year ‘Seollal.’

What’s Seollal (설날)?

Seollal marks the beginning of the lunar new year in Korea and is a time for family gatherings, reflection, and the sharing of good fortune. This celebration is steeped in tradition, with customs such as ancestral rituals, delicious feasts, and various cultural activities.
