On November 28, 2023, Consul General Euy Whan Kim met with Professor George Kallander, Professor and Director of Graduate Studies in the History Department at Syracuse University, where he is also the Director of East Asia Program at the Moynihan Institute, to discuss the operation of Korean Studies courses and exchange views on Korean history and development. Consul General Kim commended Professor Kallander and showed his support to promote Korean Studies.
Since 2006, Professor Kallander, an expert on Asia who has authored three books on Korea, has been teaching Korean history at the Maxwell School of Citizenship and Public Affairs at Syracuse University. He runs a class with a capacity of 30 students and, except during the COVID-19 pandemic, visits Korea annually. He noted an increasing interest in Korea among students, attributed to the country's rising global stature and the influence of the Korean Wave (Hallyu).
