2024 Korean Picturebook Translation Competition

The Korean Cultural Center in Sweden (Koreanskt Kulturcenter) is hosting the '2024 Korean Picture Book Translation Contest' to encourage Korean language learning and to foster professional translators who will contribute to Korean-Swedish cultural exchange. We hope many people will show interest and participate in this contest, which will become the cornerstone for the globalization of Korean literature.

• Who can apply: All nationalities, all ages (*Winners of the 1st Picture Book Translation Contest can participate.)

• Contest guidelines:

-  9 September - 14 October, the Korean Cultural Center in Sweden, and Sejong Institute in Gothenburg will hand out the target books

-  Download the blank translation manuscript form from our official website (Participant’s name is required to be added to the file)

-  1-14 October, submit the completed translation to bada@kkultur.org

-  15 October - 7 November, review of the translation manuscript

-  8 November, translation seminar and award ceremony

• Target books: 

- <곰할머니의 잠가게> Yang Seon/Dali Publishing, books for children

- <컬러보이> Son Seo-eun/Biryongso Publishing, books for children and adolescents

• Judges: 

- Choi Sun-kyoung, Department of Scandinavian Languages, Hankuk University of Foreign Studies

- Kim Eun-ah, Department of Korean Studies, Stockholm University

- Matilda Wallin Tranströmerbibliotekt

- Johan Andér Former Assistant Professor, Department of Scandinavian Languages, Hankuk University of Foreign Studies

• Judging Criteria: Natural translation of Korean and literary elements

• Prize money (per book): 1st place SEK 8,000, 2nd place SEK 4,000, 3rd place SEK 2,000
