KCCHK, the Korean Cultural Center in Hong Kong (Director Choi Jaewon, hereinafter referred to as KCCHK) presented the performance of the original Korean musical "Finding Mr. Destiny" at the Hong Kong City Hall Theater from October 24th (Thursday) to the 27th for 4 days.
Following the success of last year's popular musical "Vanishing," KCCHK showcased one of the representative works from Korea's Daehangno theater district in Hong Kong. "Finding Mr. Destiny" has been continuously loved since its premiere in 2006, with a total of 8,500 performances to date. Not only has it been performed overseas in regions like Japan and Taiwan, but it has also gained recognition for its artistic quality, popularity, and potential for international market expansion as the first Korean musical to export its license to China.
The performances attracted not only musical fans but also Hong Kong government officials, local major arts organizations and arts school representatives, and actors. Local audiences praised the actors' performances and vocal abilities, the engaging storyline, the actors' rapport with the audience, and their communication skills.
Audience members shared various impressions, such as "It was a perfect performance; the actors' voices were beautiful, and their harmony was exceptional," "The incorporation of diverse Hong Kong elements such as Hong Kong movie lines, songs, and Cantonese was very impressive and touching," "The actor's ability to portray so many roles as a multi-man was remarkable; I only realized all these roles were played by one person during the curtain call," and "It was great to learn how amazing and fun Daehangno is through interactions with the audience. I would like to visit Daehangno and watch a performance the next time I visit Korea."
The performance is a key program of the annual Festive Korea event hosted by KCCHK, supported by the Korea Arts Management Service, and sponsored by the Hong Kong government (LCSD). Through the support of the Korean and Hong Kong governments, the event contributed to enhancing cultural exchange.
This year, to expand the scope of cultural exchange, KCCHK invited around 100 students from the Hong Kong Academy for Performing Arts to an open rehearsal and conducted a backstage tour led by a stage director for students majoring in Technical Production. Additionally, KCCHK organized an industry forum for local musical and theater production companies and invited key figures from the Korean musical industry, including Yea Ju Yeol, Head of the CJ ENM Performance Business Department; Yoon Se-in, Director of the Lotte Cultureworks Performance Business Team; and Lee Hyun Jae, Director of Neo Production. They had a meaningful presentation session on the development of the Korean musical industry and commercial sponsorship, deepening cultural exchange between Korea and Hong Kong.
