The next group we are delighted to introduce is the Namwon Municipal Traditional Orchestra. As part of the Namwon Municipal Arts Troupe, which received thunderous applause at last year's Korea Festival 2023. This year's performance will showcase traditional Korean music such as Geomungo Sanjo, Pansori, and Haegeum, alongside fusion performances featuring modern songs like 'Fly to the Sky' and 'Over the Rainbow' played on traditional Korean instruments. We invite you to enjoy this beautiful Gugak (Traditional Korean Music) performance on an autumn evening at Umm Al Emart Park.

□ About Namwon Municipal Traditional Orchestra

Founded in 1921, as a private group, it was renamed Namwon Gugakwon (Namwon Traditional Music Institute) after Korea's liberation in 1945, and later became a public institution in 1983. It has produced numerous Gugak masters, including the renowned Ahn Sook-sun, and curretly consistes of 50 members across instrumental, vocal, and dance sections. The troupe performs around 200 shows annually, including broadcasts, overseas performances, local invites, and regular shows. The Namwon Municipal Traditional Orchestra continuously works to elevate regional historical and cultural assets into perfoming arts, strengthening local identity and fostering Namwon as a distinctive cultural city.
