The Korean Cultural Center in Brazil is pleased to announce a chat with the talented South Korean writer Keum Suk Gendry-Kim, author of the successful graphic novel Grass. The event will take place on December 9th (Monday) at 2 PM at the Korean Cultural Center in Brazil.
During the chat, Keum Suk Gendry-Kim will share her experiences as an author and the creative process behind her works. It will be a wonderful opportunity for fans and literature enthusiasts to learn more about the author and her work.
About the Author
Keum Suk Gendry-Kim was born in 1971 in Goheung, a beautiful and small town surrounded by the sea and mountains, in the Jeolla region of southern South Korea. She is the author of notable historical comics, such as Grass, which tells the story of women who were victims of sexual slavery by the Japanese Imperial Army during the Pacific War.
She received special attention at the Angoulême International Comics Festival for her short story Secret, and won the grand prize at the 14th Korea Creative Comics Competition for her short story Sister Mija. For Grass, she won six major awards: The Cartoonist Studio Prize, Big Other Book Awards, Harvey Award, Krause Essay Prize, VLA Graphic Novel Diversity Awards, and ALA/YALSA. She has been holding solo exhibitions across Europe and South Korea since 2012.
Her works have been translated into twelve languages, including French, Italian, English, Japanese, and Portuguese, receiving enthusiastic responses in Europe, South America, North America, and Asia.
