Events at KCCs abroad


Korean Cultural Center in Thailand hosted 'Bangkok in love with Kimchi' event that promotes Kimchi and Kimjang (making Kimchi) on November 21 at 10 AM at Lan Khon Mueang, Civic Plaza in front of the BMA City Hall.







During the event, around 700 participants including Mr. Chadchart Sittipunt, the Governor of Bangkok and ambassadors in Thailand from Portugal and diplomatic corps from 7 countries such as Italy, Chile, France, Indonesia and Guatemala made 1,500kg's Kimchi together, and donated the half of it, 750kg to neighbors in need of Bangkok. The Center also prepared various activities, such as tasting Korean food pairing well with Kimchi and craft experiences.



Mr. Ham Jeong-han, the Minister of the Embassy of the Republic of Korea said, "November 22 is celebrated as Kimchi Day in Korea. Nowadays, Kimchi has been developed with local ingredients globally, and Korean restaurants in Thailand make Kimchi using Papaya. It is the great example of culinary cultural exchange between Korea and Thailand" by his opening speech.



Mr. Chadchart Sittipunt, the Governor of Bangkok also said, "I would like to thank the Embassy of the Republic of Korea and the Korean Cultural Center for selecting the City Hall Square as the venue for this cultural exchange event, which Kimjang, the Korean culture listed as UNESCO’s Intangible Cultural Heritage met Thai vegetables and fruits" by his welcoming speech.



The event has closed with the donation ceremony, which 750kg's Kimchi is packed and delivered to the officers from each district office of Bangkok.





After making Kimchi, participants visited booths providing different cultural experiences about Korea, such as grilled pork belly at the Korean National Unification Advisory Council, Papaya Kimchi at Myeongga Korean restaurant, Ramyeon Cooker machine, Korean fan craft at the Korea Tourism Organization and the processed food by Korean melon at For us Farm.





Ms. Lee Sunju, the director of the Center said, "I am so pleased to host a big Kimchi making and sharing event to celebrate Kimchi Day, November 22, at the center of Bangkok. The Center will keep promoting healthy Korean food including Kimchi and provide Korean cooking experiences as well."
