Events at KCCs abroad

Last month, 19 November, the Korean Cultural Centre SA successfully hosted a virtual seminar to spotlight the prestigious Global Korea Scholarship (GKS) program, underscoring the South Korean government's commitment to fostering international academic exchange and collaboration.

The hour-long event, held online, was attended by students, educators, and parents from across South Africa and beyond. The webinar offered an in-depth overview of the GKS program, which aims to provide talented individuals worldwide with opportunities to pursue undergraduate and graduate studies in South Korea.

Participants were guided through the scholarship’s extensive offerings, including tuition coverage, living stipends, medical insurance, and language training. Additionally, the session covered essential information such as eligibility requirements, application procedures, and strategies to strengthen one’s candidacy.

A key highlight of the seminar was a live Q&A segment, where attendees had the chance to interact with GKS alumni and representatives from South Korea’s National Institute for International Education (NIIED). Alumni shared personal stories of their academic journeys, emphasizing how the scholarship opened doors to world-class education, cultural exchange, and career development.

"The Global Korea Scholarship is more than just financial support," remarked Ellie Yun, Senior Education Officer of the Korean Cultural Centre, who welcomed participants. "It represents an opportunity to build lifelong connections, embrace new cultures, and unlock potential on an international stage. This webinar is part of our ongoing effort to bridge educational aspirations with global opportunities."

As South Korea continues to position itself as a global leader in higher education and innovation, programs like GKS serve as a testament to the nation’s dedication to cultivating future leaders and fostering global partnerships.

The Korean Cultural Centre SA encouraged attendees to follow up with their office for further guidance and to keep an eye out for the 2025 application cycle, which opens early next year.
