Events at KCCs abroad

The Korean Cultural Center Los Angeles (Director Sangwon Jung) successfully hosted the Korea-Mexico cultural exchange event "Library of Stories, Flavors, Sounds" on November 9.

Co-hosted with Santa Fe Springs City Library and California Humanities, this event celebrated the rich cultures of Korea and Mexico. Santa Fe Springs has diverse immigrant community residents, mainly the Mexican population, but the Korean community has also been steadily growing, fostering a more significant interest in Korean culture. California Humanities, a partner of the National Endowment for the Humanities (NEH), aims to promote cultural diversity in California and supported this event to connect communities from different cultural backgrounds.

The program included a storytelling performance by Latin American musical group Cascada de Flores, a reading and storytime session from author Helena Ku Rhee's “Sora’s Seashells,” and a traditional Korean tea and dessert tasting by tea master Youngmi Yi. An exhibition showcased works by Han Kang, the first Nobel Literature Prize winner from the Republic of Korea, was also held. After the event, the English-translated versions of Han Kang’s books were donated to the Santa Fe Springs City Library for the local community.
