The Korean Cultural Center in Thailand hosts '2025 Seollal (Lunar New Year) Festival' at the Center on 29 January at 17:00, the lunar New Year’s Day, which is the biggest traditional holiday in Korea. The Center introduces the Korean way to celebrate the lunar New Year’s Day, including Sabae (New Year's Bow), Hanbok (traditional Korean attire), Korean foods, traditional plays and performances.
At the beginning of the event, local students do 'Sabae', a deep traditional bow to elders, such as Korean war veterans and the members of Korea-Thailand Friendship Association, to express their gratitude to these elder's contribution for friendly relations between Korea and Thailand.
During the event, the participants taste Tteok-Mandu-guk, the rice cake and dumpling soup to celebrate the new year, and experience various traditional activities such as Gongginori, which is introduced by the famous series <Squid Game 2>, Neolttwigi (a jumping game), Tuho (a throwing game), Jegi (a kicking game), and making rice-cake using a mallet.
Many participatory activities will be prepared. For example, the participants can join the Hanbok Photogenic Contest by using the instant photo taken during their Hanbok experience. The participant can try the 'Yut-jeom', reading their fortune with Yut, sticks for the traditional play. The Center provides various gifts to participants via the lucky draw.
The event will be closed by the traditional performance by Jangdan Labs, the famous team from Korea. The team will show various pungmul nori, play with musical instruments, including Mungut (a play to celebrate the New Year’s Day), Binari (a song wishing the new year's hope) and Pangut which demonstrates harmony and precision of its performers.
Ms. Lee, Sunju, the director of the Center said, "Korean New Year’s Day has the family-centered culture as the family gets together with neighbors, and its symbol is white color, which can see in the rice-cake soup and envelope for gift money to juniors, meaning all things newly start. I hope many people come to participate and experience Korean New Year’s Day."
