The KCCUK is excited to announce a special season in 2025, marking the 80th Anniversary of Korea's Liberation. A curated selection of Korean films on the theme of 'Liberation' will be screened throughout the year.
Join us for the first screening of A Resistance(2019), a film based on the true story of freedom fighter 'Yu Gwan-sun'.
Though set almost entirely within the confines of the notorious Seodaemun Prison, this mostly monochrome masterpiece by Joe Min-ho crystallizes the ordeals of the Japanese colonial rule of Korea. Arrested alongside 47,000 others for participating in the 1919 March 1st Movement, Yu Gwan-sun continued her resistance from within her overcrowded cell, facing relentless persecution.
